YOUNG CITIZENS' LEAGUE
. w FORxMATION AT SUMNER PROPOSED
Through a proposal made by Cr. P. C. Fen wick, the Sumner Borough Council decided last evening to form a Young Citizens' League, comprising young persons in Sumner and Redcliffs
The purpose of the league is to seek the co-operation of the youth of the borough in shouldering their share of responsible citizenship. Cr. Fenwick said, that there was plenty of scope for their interest in the welfare of the borough. He mentioned that every afternoon Scarborough residents were aware, of the damage to the breakwater caused through stones being thrown into the harbour. In addition, the assistance of these young persons could be obtained in patrolling the dangerous area near the boat harbour, where two young children were drowned. Another matter in which they ccuid interest themselves was in checking "dirt hogs" who insisted on throwing out banana skins and rubbish from their cars on to the road. _ Councillors were unanimous in their support of the proposal, and it was left to the Mayor (Mr J. E. Talt), Crs. Roberts and Fenwick, to convene a meeting of young persons.
