COMMERCIAL RADIO SERVICE

* • . STATION FOR PALMERSTON NORTH (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 7. The decision of the Government to establish a new commercial broadcasting station at Palmerston North Is announced in the latest issue Of the Labour paper, the “Standard.” This station will be the fifth to be operated by the National Commercial Broadcasting Service, the others being at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The Government’s decision, states the "Standard,” is in accordance with the promise made by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) when he visited Palmerston North some months ago to open the winter show. At that time Mr Savage was unable to say whether the station would be a unit in the national or commercial services. , The "Standard” also announces that the Government has decided that no political propaganda will be broadcast from the commercial stations during the election campaign. However, brief announcements of arrangements made for political meetings will be broadcast at a certain time each night during the campaign. ' 1
