HOLIDAYS WITH PAY
* —— POSITION OF FACTORY WORKERS AMENDMENT TO LAW PROPOSED firom Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 7. Holiday provisions in tne factories Amendment Act. 1936, are clarified by a section in the Statutes Amendment Bill, which was introduced m the House of Representatives by GovernorGeneral’s Message to-day. The act of 1936 provided, tor paid holidays for factory workers on Christmas Day: Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Labour Day, and the King’s Birthday. In the case of all these holidays, with the exception of Anzac Day, Labour Day, and the King’s Birthday, it was provided that holiday .pay would be made to all factory workers employed in a factory at any time during the preceding fortnight, while the provision for the other three d^ r s was that payment should be made "o any worker employed within four days of the holiday. These portions of the act are to be repealed, and the new provision is that payment of wages for all the holidays will bo made to factory workers employed in the factory at any time during the fortnight ending on the day. on which the holiday occurs. If a factory worker has been employed by more than one person during the fortnight, he will be entitled to receive holiday pay from the several employers in the proportion to be determined by the Inspector of Factories. An additional provision is that the employment of casual workers merely for the purpose of baking or preparing for baking any article of food required for sale for human consumption, to meet the public demand resulting from the observance of any of the holidays, will not constitute a case for the payment of holiday wages.
