between life and death. Eventually a new treatment was tried. It was based on the theory that the blood of persons who have had their spleen removed coagulates more easily than that of other people. Such persons were selected for three blood transfusions, and at last the fever abated and the bleeding stopped. _ The Count then secured an executive position at New York in British Motors, Ltd., a. firm founded to market cars in the United States. ~ _ . In July, 1936, the Countess announced that she was about to seek a divorce on the ground of incompatibility and that she did not demand any alimony. Next day the Count stated that he had for some time contemplated the annulment of his marriage and that an action was about to begin. He declared that he was the aggrieved party. It was reported that he wished to marry Marta Rocafort, the daughter of a Havana dentist, but the Count stated that they were merely friends. This marriage took place a few months later, but was short-lived.
