ENGAGEMENT NOTICE
Mrs A. Parker, of London, announces the engagement of her daughter, Kay to Thomas R. Catley. of London, both of whom have recently taken up residence In Wellington. Notices of engagement for publication in “The Press” must be signed by both parties to the engagement. A charge of five shillings (ss) will be made for each notice. COMING-OF-AGE PARTIES The parish hall, Fairlie, was crowded when Mr and Mrs P. E. Neilson gave an enjoyable party to celebrate the coming-of-age, of their only daughter, Iris. The hall was artistically decorated with coloured streamers and balloons, toning with the pink silk lace frock worn by the guest of honour. Most of the evening was spent in dancing to music played by the M.C.C. orchestra. Novelty items and a lap dance by the Neilson brothers were much enjoyed. At supper Mr E. B. Taylor proposed the toast of Miss Neilson, and Mr A. H. Carlton replied. Mr Neilson presented his daughter with the traditional key, which was autographed by the 120 guests. Mr L. Siegert was master of ceremonies, and the Mackenzie Highland Pipe Band was also in attendance. An enjoyable evening party was held in the Selwyn Street Kindergarten, Christchurch, to celebrate the coming-of-age of Lorna, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs W. G. Henderson, Kaiapoi, Music was played by Les Kinsman’s orchestra, and Mr I. W. Henderson was master of ceremonies. Those present included Mr and Mrs J. Wakelm, Mr and Mrs R. G. Dougall, Mr and Mrs J. C. Henderson, Mr and Mrs L. B. Sloane, Mr and Mrs P. J. Fox, Mr and Mrs A. H. Burt, Mr and Mrs J. Ealham, Mr and Mrs J. Rowe, Mr and Mrs N. Jellie, Mrs F. Everett, Mrs B. Mansfield, Misses L. Dewar (Bennetts) entertained a number of friends in the Carleton jHall. - ~ . . Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs G. Mehrtens with extras by Messrs T, Pester and E. Beckley. The masters of ceremonies were Messrs A. R. Dewar and J. R. Cameron. Novelty dances were won by Mr and Mrs C. Tomlinson, Miss Marion Cameron and Mr L. Higginson, Miss Myra Morton, and Mr Robert Chapman, Mrs G. Grant and Mr L. Grant. A competition was won by Miss Madge Dewar. A song by Miss Jean Cameron was much appreciated.
