THE LYTTELTON SEAT

TO THB EDITOR OF THB PRESS. Sir —Mr T. H. McCombs, M.P. for the Lyttelton electorate, appears to be at a loss what to do. In the first place he has the Hon. D. G. Sullivan to give him a helping hand; now Mr J. W. Morgan hops into the breach, just as when Mr McCombs was first elected when Labour members of Parliament came from all parts of New Zealand to help to condemn all past governments. If Mr Morgan is authorised to act for Mr McCombs will he supply the following information for electors of the Lyttelton electmate? Possibly there are several Nationalists m the electorate ■who %vovi\6. he; interestecL Why is it found necessary to teach hatred of the press? Is it because it would be dangerous for the supporters to believe any other paper but the “Standard,” as they might get to know 'too much? Why is it found necessary to teach hatred of the Nationalists? Is it because the supporters might attend the meetings and hear the other side? , , Mr Morgan is repeating parrot, fashion how hard things were in the'slump and speaking of bad debts you get them with a section no matter how prosperous they are. The country depends on the value of production as a measure of prosperity. The present Government depends on taxation and up to the present has not had to stand the test of time or low export prices. Mr Morgan’s advice to leave politics in the hands of Mr McCombs might be well meant. Ido not know much about politics; I am only a simple country lad who joined the tax resisters. I believe it was ao excellent idea; it does not take much thinking to understand how hollow the claptrap of the present Socialist politician is, and examining them individually on their merits will be interesting as the election draws on. I will reply to Mr Shackel when the Cabinet has announced the guaranteed price for butter for the present season.—Yours, etc., , H. BUSS. Heathcote, August 30, 1938.
