OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP AT ROTORUA
YOUNG HAMILTON PLAYER'S
SUCCESS

ROTORUA, August 26,
Maintaining the brilliant form which had characterised his earlier matches, the 18-year-old Hamilton scratch player, R. H. Glading, won the Rotorua open golf championship this afternoon, when he beat the veteran Aucklandcr, H. B. Lusk, 9 and 8, at the twenty-eighth. Glading played a flawless game, his success being largely because of accurate putting, during which he did two birdies, also an eagle three at the fifth. The Thermal Cup was won by K. M.' Wi'son (Auckland), who beat L. F. Potter (Wellsford), 1 up on the thirty-sixth.
MID-CANTERBURY TOURNAMENT
CANCELLED
Because no suitable dates were available the annual Mid-Canterhury ,women s golf tournament was cancelled for this year at a meeting of the Ashburton Ladies Golf Club yesterday. . ~„,„„ The tournament was originally set down for May, but was postponed until September 20 and 21 because of wet weather, but the committee decided yesterday that it should be abandoned. . Miss J. Lane (captain) presided at the meeting.
