LARGE APPROPRIATIONS APPROVED

WELLINGTON, August 26.

The sitting of the House of Representatives to-day was short the ad' journment for the week-end being* taken at 4.30 p.m. Departmental estimates were under discussion all day, except for the few minutes required to table the report of the Railways Department. The total appropriations approved by the House to-day were £9,335,438, bringing the gnlsd total for three and a half days' sitting on the estimates to £22,652,570. The Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) announced at the conclusion' of the sitting that local bills and an Imprest Supply Bill would be taken on Tuesday. It is probable that the Minister for Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) will reply to the second reading debate on the Social Security Bill on Wednesday.
