NAZI ORDER DEFIED BY BISHOP
REFUSAL TO LEAVE DIOCESE
BERLIN, August 25,
The Roman Catholic Bishop of Rothenburg, who is in disfavour with the Nazis and has been ordered to leave his diocese, has refused, declaring that he cannot renounce-his It is not known whether he will be forcibly expelled. The Nazis allege that he insolently violated his "political obligations." On July 27, 5000 Nazi demonstrators, brought to Rothenburg, near Stuttgart, in motor coaches, broke down the doors of the palace of the Roman Catholic Bishop, who is m high disfavour since he explained f .at he had not voted for a party which was sending enemies of the Church to the Reichstag. The demonstrators threw documents from the windows and attempted to set fire to the palace. Eventually they entered the chapel, but on finding the Bishop on his knees in prayer with the Archbishop of Freiburg, they withdrew.
