BURIED IN SAND TUNNEL
NARROW ESCAPE OF TWO BOYS TWENTY MEN DIG TO EFFECT RESCUE ITHE PRESS Special Service.| GREYMOUTH, July 28. After feverish digging by 20 men, Leslie Carr, the 13-year-old son of Mr and Mrs P. Carr, Bright street, Cobden, and a 12-year-old boy, George Williams, living at Fox street, Cobden, were" rescued from death by suffocation in the nick of time. Playing in a vacant section at Cobden this afternoon, they entered a sand tunnel 10 feet long and six feet deep, which cillapsed, burying them both. Help was summoned by companions, and both were extricated alive. One was blue in the face and both suffered shock. After attention by Dr. J. F. C. Moore they were taken to their homes. CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED COLLISION WITH MOTOR-VAN AT HAWARDEN Injuries, from which he died a few hours after admission to hospital, were received by Patrick John Leary, aged 19, of Hawarden. in a collision between the bicycle he was riding and a motor-van at Hawarden on Wednesday afternoon. Leary suffered head injuries and a fracture of both thighs. Leary. who was a son of Mr and Mrs D. Leary, of Mason's Flat, was returning to the Hawarden Post Office, where he was employed, when the accident occurred. He was taken to the Waikari Hospital, and died about five hours after admission. BUILDER SUFFERS INJURY TO HAND While working On a building in Innes road yesterday, Harvey George Liebert, a builder, of d Gosset street, St. Albans, had his right hand caught in a concrete-mixer and suffered injuries which necessitated his admission to the Christchurch Public Hospital. The thumb was amputated. Lieberfs condition was reported last evening as satisfactory;
