——♦ FIFTY-THREE MILES IN LESS THAN TWO DAYS (Received July 26, 10 p.m.) VENICE (California), July 26, Paul Chotteau, the French swimmer, was taken from the water 11 miles from his goal, after his failure to swim the 58 miles from Santa Barbara island to the mainland. Chotteau, however, established a new long-distance record in open water of about 53 miles in one day 21 hours 4 minutes.
