NORTH CANTERBURY NEWS

SMALLER WHEAT f HARVEST

prediction for north CANTERBURY GERMINATION OF SEED AFFECTED BY RAIN Farmers in the Rangiora district predict that this year’s wheat harvest in North Canterbury will be smaller than it was last year. The ground was still too cold for successful germination, and many farmers were postponing laying down their seed until warmer weather. Mr R. Peach also predicted a smaller wheat harvest, remarking that several growers whom he knew had intended increasing their acreage of wheat this year, but had been prevented from doing so because of the unfavourable state of the ground.
