He renounced the throne on March 31 in favour of Prince Francis Josef, aged 31. . . At that time the Diet, voicing the fears of the principality as a result of the annexation of Austria by Germany, passed a resolution m favour of independence and fidelity in the reigning house, and of adherence to treaties.
