QUESTIONS FOR NATIONALISTS
TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir. —Although the candidates of the National Party invite questions at their meetings, it is difficult to put a question without running the risk of being derided, or scoffed at, or having an attempt made to cause the questioner to be a butt and laughing stock of the supporters- at such meetings. May I be permitted to ask four questions through the columns of your paper. Unfortunately, the National candidates take it for granted that one who asks a question is an opponent. In this they may be in error; questions are asked to gain information. My questions are:— (1) What measure or law that has been passed by the present Government will be repealed if the National Party comes into power after the next election?
(2) Will the National Party, if elected, take immediate steps to remove the sales tax, which at present it opposes?
(3) Will the National Party, if elected, take immediate steps to reduce very considerably the exchange rate, which it also opposes? (4) Do the leaders of the National Party know that men and women are calling from house to house informing the householders that their homes will be confiscated if the present Government continues in power?— Yours, etc., JACTA EST ALEA. July 26, 1938.
