LONDON PRESS COMMENTS

"MR NASH'S OPTIMISM

JUSTIFIED"

NEW ZEALAND FINANCES SAID TO BE SATISFACTORY (TOTTED PBBSS *SSOCUTIOir—COPTBIGHT.) (Received July 22, 1 a.m.) LONDON, July 21. The newspapers favourably comment on the New Zealand Budget. "The Times" says: "Mr Nash's optimistic estimates have again proved to be justified. New Zealand's finances will thus continue on a satisfactory basis." The "Financial News" says: "Mr Nash is strictly orthodox, as he has always been. So far he has been playing on a good wicket. This has recently shown signs of wearing, but it does not look to be in danger of breaking up. There is no reason why he should be considered to have bitten off more than he can chew, unless there is a protracted period of low commodity prices." The "Daily Telegraph" states: "The figures are satisfactory and should reassure English bondholders, for the increased social services, the restoration of cuts in salaries, and substantial improvements in economic conditions have been achieved within a balanced Budget."
