The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to fresh southerly winds. Weather cloudy to overcast, and In places misty, with further intermittent rain. Temperatures cold. Seas moderate, but with an easterly swell. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light to moderate southerly winds prevailing. Weather fair to fine, and cool. Seas, slight to moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:—. Weather fair to eloudy in western and southern districts of the South Island, elsewhere overcast and in places misty, with further rain in most districts, and heavy falls in eastern areas; gradually improving, however, in the north and west. Temperatures becoming cooler. A deep and complex cyclonic depression is situated to the east of the North Island, and is moving south-eastwards. Prossure is low. also, over southeastern Australia. Winds—Light to moderate and variable in the far south, elsewhere easterly to southerly, and later southwesterly prevailing, force moderate to strong generally from Cook Strait northwards, and reaching gale force in exposed positions. Seas 'New Zealand waters)-Rough to very 'rough in places north of Kaikoura and Farewell Spit, bu> moderating north of East Cape- else where slight to moderate, with it heavy swell on the east coast. Eastern Tasman Sea—Southerly winds, strong to gale force in the northern portion, with very rougn seas: light to moderate in the southern portion, with slight seas.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Misty rain fell in Christchurch all day yesterday, and there Was a i;<<ht wind from the south-west. The maximum temperature during the day was 45.3 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was clear and a south-west wind ■waa Mowing. The temperature was 39 degrees and the barometer wa» steady at 29.79 Inches.

IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—Steady rain, with a fresh wind from the south-east, fell during the day. The barometer fell sharply until the late afternoon, when it began to recover, the change being accompanied by the wind moving into the south. The reading at '5 p.m. was 29.24 inches. The maximum temperature was 57 degrees. • Wellington—The weather was dull and misty, with an intermittent drizzle, and a moderate to fresh southerly breeze. The temperature was rather mild. At 3 p.m. the barometer read 29.577 inches. Dunedin—There were passing clouds in the sky and the sun shone intermittently.
