♦ i BASE TO BE PREPARED AT CANTON ISLAND PAN AMERICAN SERVICE MAY BEGIN NEXT AUTUMN (TOTTED press association—COPTßlOßT.) (Received July 20, 5.5 p.m.) HONOLULU, July 19. It is disclosed here that Pan American Airways is sending a surface craft to Phoenix Island in the autumn to prepare a base at Canton Island for the Antipodes air service. Experimental flights will take place before the end of the year, but the service .will not commence until spring. ______________
