LNTER-SCHOOL MATCH ASHBURTON BEATS RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL The annual Rugby football match between the Rangiora High School and the Ashburton High School, played at Rangiora yesterday, was won by Ashburton by 6 points to 3. The match was played in heavy rain, and the ground was like a quagmire before the game was half over. Play was confined mostly to the forwards. The teams were:— Ashburton—l. Gordon, M. Martin, R. Plunkett, D, Shaw, C. Osborne, T. Kennedy, R. Vessey, W. Lowry, V. Miles, W. Euick, A. Rowell, N. Greaves, H. Sinclair, R. Smith, R. Maynard. Rangiora—S. Montgomery, J. Meyer, P. Coleman, L. Cook. E. Gardner, B. Scott, J. Lockhart, M. Smith, G. Smith, V. Bennett, E. Feary, K. Stevenson, K. WeUs, G. Burney, A. Martyn. Rangiora opened the score with a brilliant try. Montgomery (the captain) sprinted from Ashburton's twenty-five line and passed to Burney, who touched down. The kick iailed. Rangiora 3, Ashburton 0. After Rangiora's try. Ashburton attacked persistently with loose forward rushes. The defence held until Kennedy forced his way over just before halftime. The kick missed. Rangiora 3, Ashburton 3. Both sides had a fair share of the ball in the second half. The weight of the Ashburton forwards told, however, and in spite of every attempt made by the home side to check them, Plunkett broke through to touch down. The game ended: Ashburton 6, Rangiora 3. Mr F. Burgess was referee. The visiting team was entertained in the evening at a social in the High School. It will return home to-day.

The match between the United and Culverden teams at Waikari next Saturday is o* interest as both teams are leading in the senior competition.
