SHIPS’ LONG TOW TO SHANGHAI

ONE OF FOUR BEACHED ON QUEENSLAND COAST

(Received July 5, 11.20 p.m.)

SYDNEY, July 5,

The Navigation Department at Sydney has received a report that a unit of the four ships, which left Sydney on May 21 on a 5000-mile tow to Shanghai, is ashore on the Boer Reef, 18 miles from Cooktown (Queensland), near the spot Captain Cook beached the Endeavour for repairs in 1770. It is believed that the stranded vessel is the former collier Ready.

Other advice states that the remaining vessels, the Frosty Moller, with two small vessels in tow, passed Thursday Island on June 28.
