STOCK SALES

ASHBURTON There was a small yarding at the Ashburton stock market yesterday, when the prices realised showed a slight rise compared with those at Tinwald last week. Competition was not keen and there were several passings. The top price for the sale was 27s Id for a pen of three wethers from A. Bennison (Seafield). Pat ewes sold up to 22s 4d. A fat lamb brought 22s 6d. The principal sales were:— Fat Ewes—On account of P. Hyland (Elgin), 14 at Us 4d to 13s 7d; G. Giles (Wakanui), 6 at 14s lOd to 17s Id; estate W. J. Allan (Ruapuna), 12 at 14s 7d to 15s 4d; clients, 421 at 10s 7d to 22s 4d. Fat Wethers—On account of J. Lambie (Kyle), 8 at 22s lOd to 25s 10d; Clucas Bros. (Pendarves), 5 at 21s 10d; A. Bennison (Seafield), 6 at 25s lOd to 27s Id; W. P. Prebble (Winchmore), 1 at 21s lOd: client, 12 at 24s lOd to 27s Id. ' Fat Lambs —On account of a client, 1 at 22s 6d. Cattle—Heifers at £7 to £B, fat cows at £5 10s to £B, cow just calved £8 10s. RANGIORA STOCK MARKET There was a fair yarding of pigs at the weekly stock market \at Hangiora yesterday. Prices realised were as follows: Baconers £2 17s 6d to £4 Is 6d, porkers 42s 6d to 43s 6d, small stores to 21s. large stores to 26s 6d, slips 18s, weaners 15s 6d: ewes 13s to 15s. LORNEVILLE (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM. ) INVERCARGILL. July 5. All classes of fat sheep showed a decline of about 2s a head compared with the previous week at the Lornevlile stock sale to-day. The entry, though smaller than a week ago, was too large for the restricted demand. The sale was an erratic one, with no outside butchers or graziers operating. The fat cattle sale was a good one, prices increasing as much as £2 a head for prime quality fat sheep. Prime average wethers made to 33s 6d, prime 29s to 31s, medium 26s to 275, and light and unfinished 21s to 23s 6d. Extra heavy ewes brought to 24s 6d, prime heavy 21s 6d to 235, good quality 18s 6d to 20s. medium 16s to 17s, and light and unfinished 10s to 13s 6d. Prime quality bullocks realised from £l4 to £ls. handy-weights £l2 10s to £l3 10s, light-weights £lO 10s to £ll 15s, good quality cows £lO to £lO 15s, medium £8 to £O, unfinished £5 15s to £6 15s, good quality handy-weight heifers £9 10s to £lO 10s, light-weights £8 to £8 10s, small £6 15s to £7 10s.
