GOLDEN JUBILEE OF LODGE

* SYDENHAM DIVISION OP TEMPERANCE ORDER The Hope of Sydenham Division of the Sons of Temperance Lodge began the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary with a jubilee banquet. D.M.WJP. Bro. W. Grenfell presided over a large attendance, and W.T. Bro. R. Fairweather was master of ceremonies.

The following toasts were honoured: “The King,” proposed by Bro. W. L. Grenfell; “The Hopeof Sydenham Division," proposed by M.W.P. Bro. Bennett, responded to by W.P. Bro. N. James; “The National Division,’* W.T. Bro. Walker—Bro. Bennett; “Sister Lodges,” Bro. C. Kent —Bros. Bascand and Martin (Rechabite Lodge); “The Sub-Divi-sions.’” P.W.P. Bro. F. C. Green— P.W.P. Bro. Cresswell (Perseverance), W.P. Bro. C- Smith (Excelsior), M.WS. Bro. J. H. Jones (Elim), M-WJ*. Bro. Bennett (Progress), and P.W.P. Bro. Benjes (Resolution); “The Performers,” P.W.P. Bro. A. M. Sharp— Mr G. J. Woodham. It was stated that the division was the biggest branch of the Order in New Zealand. Tributes were paid to the service given by M.W.T. Bro. C. Kent, Bro. Grenfell, Bros. F. C. Green, H. R. Green, R. Fairweather, and N. James.

Bro. C. Kent, the only surviving charter member r. the division, who has been secretar. for 45 years, was presented with a case of pipes. The presentation was made by D.M.W.P. Bro. W. Grenfell, who also presented Mrs Kent with a tea-set. Bro. Kent was M.W.P. of the National Division of the lodge in 1918, and has served as a member ever since.

Items were given by Mr A. Mundie (recitation) and Bros. W. Grenfell. S. Sayers, and B. F. Clements (songs). Community singing was conducted by Bro. Grenfell, and Mr Woodham was the accompanist
