INDUCTION OF VICAR
CANON A. H. NORRIS AT GERALDINE SERVICE TAKEN BY THE BISHOP The induction service for Canon A. H. Norris at St. Mary’s, Geraldine, was taken by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. Dr. Campbell West-Wat-son) at Geraldine last evening.
The Bishop was assisted by Archdeacon H. W. Monaghan and the Rev. H, Norris, of Timaru. In a short address, the Bishop likened a parish to a vast cathedral. Age after age contributed their diversified gifts to the structure, but the result was a wonderful harmony. The spiritual fabric of a parish was similar. One vicar after another—each a master mason—built according to the gifts given by the Holy Spirit. Each gave his best contribution in some particular direction, and a parish should not demand of a new vicar the same gifts as his predecessors. A new man would make new contacts, laymen could contribute their gifts towards the enriching of the whole, arid the people of the parish should realise that they were part of that great fellowship of Christians the world over.
