UNUSUALLY HIGH TIDES AT WELLINGTON

POWER SUPPLY AFFECTED (rasas association tk leg ham.) WELLINGTON. July 4. An extraordinary succession of high tides in Wellington harbour resulted in considerable interruption of the Eower supply in the mid- city area, ast night several of the tramcars were not able to get back from their late trips to the bams owing to a power failure. This morning about 10 o clock the tide was again exceptionally high, and water again invaded a tunnel carrying feeder lines to the main city substation and the waterfront. By toe use of alternative circuits the trouble was minimised and the tram kept normal, but there were curious effects in many city buildings, where one section of the building would be lit and supplied with power while another part was in darkness and without power.
