♦ : OFFICIAL FORECASTS [IUE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, July 4. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate south-westerly winds prevail Ihg, Some scattered showers probable at first, but the weather for the most part fair to line. Temperatures cold, with, some frosts. Seas rough but moderating.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light to fresh south-west to southerly winds. Weather for the most patt fair,, but changeable, and with occasional showers in most places. Temperatures cold. Seas rather rough to rough. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather changeable, and with showers at times in most districts, but Improving, especially east of the ranges. Temperatures cold, ' with som? frosts. Yesterday's depression is moving away eastward, and pressure is rising over the Dominion. There has been some rise, also, over south-eastern Australia, hut it has not been very rapid. Winds—West to south-west over the North Island and south-west to southerly over the South, still strong to gale force in places, especially in the far north, but gradually decreasing. and for the most part light to moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters) Moderate in parts of coastal waters, but generally rather rough to rough, with a southerly swell. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong southwest to southerly winds, and rough seas.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

Although the weather in .Christchurch yesterday was an improvement on that on Sunday, showers of rain fell intermittently throughout the day. There were occasional gleams of sunshine. however, and. with the southwesterly wind decreasing in force as the day advanced, conditions were clearer at a late hour. The maximum temperature was 47.2 degrees. At I o'clock this morning the sky was cloudy and a light southwest breeze was blowing. The temperature was 40 degrees. Auckland —Unsettled weather, with a fresh to strong wind from the west-south-west was experienced during the day, conditions being cloudy and showery. The maximum temperature was 58 degrees. The barometer rose sharply, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.52 Inches. Wellington—After rain early yesterday morning, and a strong southerly wind, conditions gradually improved, and the afternoon wa- fair. Temperatures were cold. The minimum on Sunday night was 42.1 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 30.6 degrees. At 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon the barometer registered 29.40 Inches. Dunedin—The weather in Dunedin was cold and wet during the greater part of yesterday, the sky being heavily overcast, and frequent drizzling showers falling. Later in the afternoon conditions improved slightly, .although there was a considerable amount of heavy cloud. The maximum temperature was 47 degrees. The barometer rose steadily from 29.40 inches to 29.59 inches.
