RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION
CHRISTCHURCH EXECUTIVE’S MEETING The membership of the Christchurch branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association yesterday reached 1900, the president (Mr A. W. Mewton) reported to the executive last night. A return from the New Zealand Association showed that the membership at March 31 represented an increase of 57 over the figures for the previous year. Arrangements were made to hold a church parade at the Cathedral next Sunday morning. The president will read a lesson at the service. The formation of a committee at Kaikoura to resuscitate the sub-branch was reported by the secretary (Mr E. F. Willcox). A roll of all former servicemen in the district was being prepared The garden plot at Kaikoura was still being kept in order by Mrs Washington. The employment officer reported an increase of 41 registrations in the last fortnight, the total being 326. Subsidised work for 67 men for 60 days was found, at a cost of £33 19s. Unsubsidised work for nine days was found. The report of the general assistance committee stated that 194 applications were dealt with.
Motions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of the late Mr J. Nimmo and Mrs Davies (a member of the women’s auxiliary).
