Personal Items
The Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) arrived from the* north on Saturday morning and left later by car for the Lake Coleridge power station. He returned to Christchurch and again visited the lake yesterday, arriving back in the evening. The Minister for Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) arrived on Saturday from Wellington, and left later for the south, where he opened the South Canterbury Winter Show at Timaru. He later continued his visit further south. •
Mr C. H. Clibborn and Mr P. Fryer,, secretary and engineer respectively to the Lyttelton Harbour Board, arrived from the north on Saturday.
Among the members of the Legislative Council arriving from the north on Saturday were the Hon. T. F. Doyle, the Hon. F. Waite, the Hon. G. R. Hunter’, the Hon. J. Goodall, and the Hon. F.- E. O’Flynn.
Mr H. S. Lawrence, Christchurch manager of Dalgety and Company, Ltd., has been appointed a director of the Perpetual Trustees Estate and Agency Company, Ltd.
Members of Parliament arriving from Wellington on Saturday included the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, Mr E. J. Howard. Mr P. Nielson, Mr C. L. Carr. Mr Morgan Williams. Mr A. H. Nordmeyer, Mr T. H. McCombs, Mr H. E. Herring, Mr E. T. Tirikatene, and Mr J. G. Barclay.
Mr G. McNamara. Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, arrived from the north on Saturday.
Mr W. Machin. general manager of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., returned from a visit to England on Saturday morning.
The following appointments to domain boards in Canterbury are notified in the Gazette: the Commissioner of Crown Lands in Canterbury to be ex officio a member of the Templeton Domain Board to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr James Leslie; Mr A. C. Townshend to fill the place of Mr H. G. Parish on the Oxford Domain Board, and Mr Parish to fill the vacancy on the Ransiora Domain Board caused by the death of Mr William Stalker. The Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., and Messrs J. E. Austin. L. L. Jones, and A. Moulton were passengers from the north by the steamer express yesterday.
