TEN YEARS OF SERVICE
ELECTRIC POWER BOARD
TOUR THROUGH NORTH CANTERBURY
Members of the North Canterbury Electric Power Board celebrated the tenth anniversary of the board yesterday by conducting a tour of inspection over the whole of the northern portion of the board’s area, particular attention being given to the new area which is being reticulated at present. The party, accompanied by the engineer-secretary (Mr A. Buckingham), first inspected the- new substation at Waipara. The transmission lines near Tipapa were the next objective, after which the party proceeded nearly to the Hurunui river, returning- through Scargill to Waikan. where some time was spent in looking over the new machinery at the limeworks one of the board’s largest consumers. Considerable interest was taken in the construction of the new line to Cheviot. Practically the whole of the Waipara county was covered by the tour, Hawarden, Medbury. Mason’s Flat, and The Peaks being visited. . , , The party was entertained to morning tea at the home of Mr and Mrs H. V. Murray, and to • afternoon tea at the home of the chairman (Mr A. Cowie) and Mrs Cowie. Members were greatly impressed by the large area of rugged country which is being served with electricity and with the liberal support given to new .proposals by the residents, who have readily, subscribed towards the cost of erection of new transmission lines. Farmers throughout the area praised service made available to them by the beard.
