LABOUR CONFERENCE AT GENEVA
ONLY ONE NEW CONVENTION ADOPTED (Received June 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 22. The Geneva correspondent of “The Times” says that the International Labour Office conference has concluded. It adopted only one new convention, dealing with the internationalisation of certain labour statistics. Other conventions were accorded a first reading and will form the agenda of the 1939 conference. They include the reduction of the hours of coal-miners, the generalisation of the reduction of hours of work, and draft conclusions relating to projected international conventions on technical education, apprenticeship, native labour contracts, and the recruiting of migrants.
