U.S. ESPIONAGE INQUIRY
FOUR SUSPECTS HELD FOR TRIAL ACTIVITIES OF GESTAPO TO BE EXAMINED FLIGHT OF WITNESSES SAID i TO BE COERCED (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received June 24, 12.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 23. Rumrich, Hofmann, Glaser, and Voss, the German spy susnects, were arraigned to-day. They pleaded not guilty. The trial is scheduled for August 1. Bail was fixed at 25,000 dollars. Bench warrants have been issued for 14 others, but this is regarded only as a gesture. The “New York Times” states that it is understood that the Grand Jury will look into the activities of the Gestapo here, as the power which coerced valuable witnesses to flee, and also the National Socialist political commissars who control the ships’ crews. It was also learned that beside Carl Hermann, who was identified as a Gestapo agent in New York and has been held as a material witness, there is also Ewald Rosenberg, a member of the same organisation, who is believed to have fled to Germany.
