FINE OF £75 FOR MOTORIST
FARMER CONVICTED OF INTOXICATION For beingi intoxicated in charge of a motor-car, Thomas Edridge, a farmer of Mina, was fined £75, in default three months’ imprisonment, by Mr K C. Lewey, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court, Kaiapol, yesterday. His licence was cancelled and he was prohibited from obtaining another for four years. ' Accused pleaded guilty. He was represented by Mr C. S. Thomas, Constable J. Holmes said that the accused was a well-known North Canterbury farmer who came to Christchurch to conduct business. On his own admission he consumed six beers in the late afternoon. He left Christchurch for his home, travelling by way of Rangiora. The police made a sign to him to stop when he was passing through Kaiapoi with.only one light burning. He did not stop, and was driving somewhat erratically. Traffic Inspector W. J. Tait overtook and stopped the accused in Cookson street, and he was brought back to the police station. He was examined by Dr. M. H. Aiken, who certified him as unfit to drive because of intoxication.
