MOTOR TAXATION
UNION SEEKS REPLY FROM MINISTER [THE PRESS Special Service.] OAMARU, June 18. A decision to ask the North Island Motor Union to join in a deputation to wait on the Hon. W. Nash (Minister for Finance) to ask for a reply on motor taxation, which correspondence had failed to yield, was made at the meeting of the South Island Motor Union at Oamaru. The unions combined in waiting on the Minister in September of last year, asking for a reduction in motor taxation, which had assumed tremendous proportions, to which motorists strenuously objected. The Minister, it was said, promised them to submit his, considered reply in writing, and subsequently in December had written to the North Island Motor Union confirming his promise. Since then nothing more had been beard from him. Bequests from the unions for a reply had not been even formally acknowledged. Members expressed their dissatisfaction that such important bodies as the unions should be treated in this manner, and accordingly the decision to wait on the Minister was made.
