OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, June 17. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows;--Winds light to moderate, but freshening somewhat; north-east-erlies predominating on the coast and north-westerlies inland. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures milder. Seas light to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light to moderate northerly to north-westerly winds predominating and freshening somewhat. Weather cloudy to overcast, with intermittent rain. Temperatures milder. Seas light to moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather for the most part fair to line, but clouding over in western and southern districts of the South Island, with scattered rains developing and extending gradually northwards over western districts. Some frosts probable tonight, but temperatures generally milder. Pressure Ls relatively high over the Nortli Island, but falling in the South, under the influence of the first of a series of shallow westerly depressions, which is advancing across the South Tasman.

Winds—Light to moderate and variable, with northerlies predominating over the South Island; later northerlies becoming general and freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather tough to rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising in the Cook Strait area.

Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate and variable winds, with northwesterlies predominating, and freshening somewhat in the southern portion.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

After a frost of 14.7 degrees in the morning, the weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and sunny again, with a moderate north-easterly wind blowing in the afternoon. The maximum temperature during the day was 49 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning, the weather was clear and calm, but there was a light mist. The temperature was 38. degrees, and the barometer, at 29.90 inches, was falling slowly. Auckland—After a fine, sunny morning, light showers fell in the afternoon. The wind was light and variable from the south and east. The maximum temperature was 56 degrees and the minimum 44. The barometer at 5 p.m. was steady at 30.00 inches. Wellington—The weather was cool, after a sharp frost. It was clear and calm in the morning, but partly cloudy in the afternoon, when a moderate northerly breeze blew. The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 35.0, and the maximum yesterday 53.2. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer registered 29.912 inches.
