A pleasant time was spent at the Malplaquet rooms, when Mrs J. B. Balfour ("Vernon”), who is shortly leaving for a trip to Singapore, was entertained at a party by her friends. Teschemaker is visiting Masterton, ‘ ' It has been announced by the honorary, secretary of the. executive committee of the British National Theatre that a donation towards the seat endownment scheme had been received from. Lady Astor. who wished to perpetuate the : name of Virginia, the state of her birth. The seat endowment scheme for the National Theatre was created with the intention of perpetuating in the theatre itself, by the endowment of seats, the names of. famous actors, actresses, dramatists, and workers in the cause of the theatre generally, or private persons, names of States, boroughs, and towns. Each seat will bear a plaque setting forth the name of the donor and the name of the person or place commemorated.
