RETURNED SOLDIERS* ASSOCIATION At the fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Lyttelton Returned Soldiers’. Association. Mr A. Large presided over a full attendance. It was reported that arrangements for the association’s annual fair were proceeding satisfactorily It was decided to purchase new sets of snooker and billiards balls. The billiards and social committee reported having arranged a series of attractive entertainments for members on Friday 'nights during the winter. Mr H. Herdman was appointed pianist to the association. Films of Public Works The great extent to which Public Works in New Zealand have been mechanised since the Labour Government came into office was illustrated to an audience of about 350 at the Harbour Light Theatre last evening, when the, Hon. R. Semple, Minister for Public Works and for Transport, presented his film showing public works activities. Some films depicting former methods were also shown. The Minister also delivered an interesting talk on the subject. Mr J. D. Sargentina, President of the Lyttelton branch of le New Zealand Labour Party, presided, and introduced the Minister. The usual picture programme was presented before the screening of the Public Works film.
