RELIEF OF DISTRESS
ASSOCIATION DISSOLVED Unanimous support to the resolution passed by the last meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Metropolitan Relief Association that the association should be dissolved, was given by a general meeting of the association yesterday. Mr Beltane ■presided. The Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane) again thanked members for the work they had done over a long period, assuring them that if an emergency should arise in the future through economic troubles a similar committee as that which had contributed so greatly to the relief of distress in the city would be formed. On behalf of the residents of New Brighton the Mayor of the Borough (Mr E. Smith) also thanked the association for its assistance. Speaking of the future administration of relief in the city, Mr Macfarlane said he proposed to have a band of social workers associated with him to take over its complete control.
