DRIVER’S FATAL INJURIES
■ 1 ' ♦ ——“ CAR HITS POWER POLE AT NORTHCOTE ■THREE PASSENGERS ESCAPE UNHURT * Injuries, which proved fatal were received by John Joseph Costley, a married man, aged 35, of 98 Slater street, Shirley, in a motor accident on the Main North road near the Northcote Settlement early yesterday morning. Costley was the driver of a motor-car which struck an electric-power pole at the side of the road and he died from his injuries four hours after admission to the Christchurch Public Hos-
pital. With other members of Colin Campbell’s dance band. Costley was returning from Amberley, where the band had played at a dance on Tuesday night. ‘ The accident occurred after 3 a.m.. and Costley was taken to hospital by the St, John Ambulance. He died from severe head injuries about 7.30 a.m. Other members of the band travelling in the car, C. Campbell, A- Dale, and G. Marquet, were not injured. The right front and right side of the vehicle were badly damaged. The car mounted the footpath and then struck the pole.
