LADIES’ AUXILIARY ENTERTAINS

Members of the ladies’ auxiliary of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society were fortunate in securing the Services of Hay’s Drama Club and Junior Leaguers for an enjoyable entertainment held in the Navy League Halt' The programme was greatly enjoyed by the large audience and reflected great credit'bn Mr Turkington (drama director)/ Miss Millicent Jennings, president of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, thanked the Drama Club, Miss Roiall, and" all who' had worked so enthusiastically: to make the . entertainment successful. As a result of their efforts the funds of the auxiliary will .benefit considerably, -

i The St. Andrews Public Hall was gaily decorated with flags and bunting for the first territorial ball held in the district since 1912, The entertainment was organised by the present members of the St. Andrews voluntary unit, and attracted visitors from all the surrounding districts. Mr E. Cosgrove was master of ceremonies.

During the evening Major G. R. Lee officially announced that Corporal Blank had been promoted to the.rank of lance-sergeant. Prizes for novelty dances were won by Miss Davidson and Mr Harris, Miss L. Critchfleld and Mr Stewart (Southland).

The grand march was led by Major and Mrs Lee.

Amongst those present were Mesdames R. Childs, Findlay, C. H. S. Johnston, H. Bannerman, G. King, C. Hoskins, G. Smith, E. Coe, McKenzie, C. Edwards, Mesdames G. Dellow, McDonald, Clark, J.
