PLANS FOR RAID ON MOTORISTS

+ WARRANTS OF FITNESS TO BE ASKED FOR : According to th<_ Chief Traffic Inspector (Mr J. Bruorton), arrangements are now being made for a raid on motorists ii the next few days to ensure that motorists have warrants of fitness as well as driving licences. Mr Bruorton remarked yesterday that it was clear there were many motorists whose warrants of fitness had expired, and when the inspectors were making the raid they would ask for the production both of warrants of fitness and driving licences. Yesterday was the busiest day the City Council’s traffic department has ever had issuing drivers’ licences. The number taken out wais 978, and of these 297 were issued between 6 p.m. and 8.15 p.m. The number of licences issued now is 10,166, out of the 16,005 issued last year.
