* CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT APPLICATIONS HEARD BY COMMITTEE Five applications for transfers of hotel licences, IT for issues, 37 for renewals, and 11 for wholesale licences were considered by the annual meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee yesterday. Mr H. A. Young, S.M. (chairman), presided and associated with him were Messrs H. Holland, H. H. Holland, W. E. Simes, H. H. Wauchop, and W. Dobbs. , , The following licensees were granted transfers: —Caledonian Hotel, William Angus to Roy Tresise Polkinghorne; Oxford, Henry Marshall to William Angus; Market, Ernest Alfred Gillman to Noil Samuel Brooks; Excelsior, Peter Galligan to Randolph Vivian Eustace Waldron; Shades, Cyril Arnst Geoi tt e Hall to Ernest Alfred Gillman. Licences were issued to ei a ht appu cants as follows: —Shades, Ernest Alfred Gillman; Star, Daniel Reardon, Carlton, Charles Clark; New Zealander, Robert Joseph Kelleher, Zetland, Arnold Eric Wilson;Cokeifr’ n Thomas Nicol Grant; Oxford, William Angus; Caledonian, Roy Tresise Polkinghorne. ~ _ « The issue of a licence to the Excelsior Hotel (Randolph Vivian Eustace Waldron) was deferred until the end of the month to enable improvements to be made at the hotel. Applications for the issue of licences to the Southern Cross Hotel (Thomas Thompson) and the Market Hotel (Neil Samuel Brooks) were adjourned to the end of the month to enable The committee to inspect the premises. Renewals were granted to the licensees of the following hotels: —Prince of Wales, Central, His Lordship’s New Albion Provincial, Storey’s Tourist, While Swan, Occidental, United Service. New City. Grand, Crown, Masonic, Dominion, McKendry's, Gresham. Clarendon, Taltersalls, Papanni, Eastern, Royal Foresters, Lancaster Park, Empire Kim? George. White Hart, Star and Garter. Wholesale licences were granted to the following: —Bishop and Company, 1,1 d., Frederick Cross and Sons Ltd.. Dalgoly and Company, Ltd., Quill. Morris (ID3G), Ltd.. Frank A. Cook. Ltd., Fletcher Humphreys and Company Ltd.. Ball in Breweries (.New Zealand). Ltd., Maling and Company, Ltd, New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., Janies Shand and Compaity, Ltd. the riccarton COMMITTEE FOUR LICENCES ISSUED Satisfaction with the conduct of hotels in the Riccarton Licensing Committee’s district during the last 1 1 months was expressed by the chairman. Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.. at the annual meeting of the committee yesterday. Four publicans’ licences were_ issued and seven were renewed by the committee. which also acknowledged, two ii'dnsfcrs. Transfers granted were; —Racecourse Hotel (Alfred Sidney Higgs to John Henry Stallard): Springston Hotel (Alexander Caldwell McClea to David Conaghan). , The licences which were renewed were:—Ellesmere Arms Hotel, Tai Tapu (John Harry MacKenzie); Lake Forsyth Hotel. Little River (Lily Gertrude Dawson): Rolleston Hotel. Rolleston (Frederick Thomas Buchanan): Prebbleton Hotel. Prebbleton (Annie Smith); Black Horse Hotel, Spreydon (Thomas Quirk): Bush Inn. Riccarton (Edward Alexander Rattray); Riccarton Hotel, Riccarton (Annie Isabell Lawrence Hancock). . Licences were issued to the following:—Springston Hotel. Springston (David Conaghan): Junction Hotel Halswell (Hubert Jack Stevens); Lincoln Hotel. Lincoln (Walter Bernard Hudson): Racecourse Hotel, Riccarton (John Henry Stallard). Those present at the meeting were:— Messrs E. C. Levvey. S.M. (chairman). W. F. Parkinson. A. F. Fisher, A. E. Steere. and R. G. Malcolmson. • An apology for absence was received from Mr C. G. McKellar. The business of the meeting was transacted in a few minutes.
