SEATS FOR THE ELDERLY
to TBS EDITOR OF THE TRESS. Sir,—Now that the convenience in Cashel street has been demolished and a vacant spot left, might I suggest that this site would make a- wonderful resting place for elderly people. We have garden plots by numbers. Thank the powers that be, and also the Tramway Board, for those seats in the Square. They are a wonderful help to those who are not able to run about. If a few seats were scattered around our garden city then those who have made Christchurch could sit down and view it. We cannot sit on flowers and the stone battlements are not conducive to comfort. It is a long trip from the station to the Square. Of course we octogenarians quite realise that the new generation is here. A generation whose commandjnent is “Parents, honour your son and your daughter, that ye may not have to leave home in your old days.” No, instead of cycle stands and flower gardens in our city of the plains, make the place comfortable and happy ior those who have given their city, a lifetime’s work. —Yours, etc.. PENSO. May 31, 1938,
