COUNTRY LIBRARY SERVICE BEGUN
♦ BOOKS SUPPLIED TO RANGIORA ' The New Zealand country library service was begun in the South Island yesterday, when Mr H. JV Ldrimer, for? merly on the staff of the Canterbury Public Library, visited Rangiora with a van containing 1100 new volumes, half of which were fiction and the rest non-fiction. The Free Library at Rangiora was supplied with 50 new books, and arrangements have been made for a further supply of 300 books. The town clerk (Mr J. M. Fraser) has received advice from the Director of the Country Library Service (Mr G. T. Alley), that the Rangiora Library could retain the Association for Country Education books already- on issue as the service had arranged to get a hew stock of books for this purpose. Mr Lorimer will visit most districts in the South Island as far south as Winton, and will probably be away for a period of four months. He receives fresh supplies of books every week from Wellington. • The Country Library Service undertakes to supply free libraries with 15 new books for each 100 of population every quarter. This means that Rangiora will receive, free of charge, approximately 1200 new books annually A quantity of books was also supplied to the library at Waikuku.
