INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM IN SYDNEY

METROPOLITAN SIDE EASILY / BEATEN (Received June 2, 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 2. The Indian hockey team easily defeated the Metropolitan team. Manly, at the Oval, by 6 goals to 1 after leading by 3 goals to 1 at halftime. The weather was bleak and gusty, and incessant rain in the morning made the ground soft. Moreover the tufty turf handicapped the Indians’ natural stick proficiency. The visitors were altogether too fast and nimble. The secret of their success was their splendid positional play. Their passes were invariably directed where they knew their colleagues would be. By contrast the Metropolitan passes were directed where they hoped their team-mates would be. The visitors seldom chased, but often iran with the ball. The scorers were Sultan Khan (<»;, Feroze Khan; Mohammed Ahmed Khan, and Lajpat Rai. For., the Metropolitan team Davidson opened the scoring.
