GERMAN ATTITUDE TO DEBTS
CONCERN EXPRESSED IN LONDON «GROWING CONTEMPT FOR OBLIGATIONS ” (Received June 3, 2 a.m.) LONDON, June 2. The City is very worried over the course of the British-German negotiations on the Austrian debt question, as Germany is adopting the attitude that if pressed she will repudiate not merely the Austrian, but the whole foreign debt, including the Dawes and Young loans. Influential men in the City urge that Britain should impose exchange clearing restrictions against Germany if she defaults, and thus deprive her of free sterling balances and aggravate her already great difficulties in obtaining raw materials. The Australian Associated Press understands that the suggestion finds sympathy in Government circles, which are perturbed at Germany’s growing contempt for her obligations. -•
