RENEWAL OF DRIVING LICENCES

POSSIBILITY OP RAID IN NEXT DAYS There was again a steady demand yesterday for the renewal of driving licences by the City Council, the traffic department’s staff demmg with 670 applications. So far 9188 licences have been renewed of the 16,005 held to the end of the licence year. To give those motorists who now are not entitled to drive the fullest opportunity of renewing their licences, the office of the traffic department will be open this evening from 6 o’clock until 8.15. _ This year there has been a slightly heavier demand for renewal of licences—s7.4 per cent, of drivers having renewed their licences to date compared with 55.6 per cent, last year. As yet the department has not organised a raid to ensure that motorists are not driving without licences, but it is not improbable that such a raid will be made during the next few days. _
