RECEPTION OF FRENCH SLOOP

COMMANDER THANKS HARBOUR BOARD A letter of appreciation for the reception accorded the French war sloop Rigault de Genouilly has been received by the chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board (Mr R. T. McMillan). The letter, written, in French by the commander, Captain A. Plante, is translated as follows: “On leaving the port of Lyttelton, I wish to thank you in writing, more than 1 could do by word of mouth, for the cordial way in which you received us. Those who had the privilege of coming to the luncheon that you so amiably gave us also deeply appreciated the pleasant drive, which gave us the opportunity of admiring Christchurch and its surroundings. I thank you, moreover, for all the facilities that we had in the port of Lyttelton during our stay.. Please accept, Mr chairman, my sincerest thanks.”
