The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) has accepted an invitation to open ttie National Dairy Show at Palmerston North on June 14. The show will be held under the auspices of the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association. —Press Association.

The Hon. Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, arrived from the south yesterday and left for the north last night. The Hon. F. Waite, M.L.C., was a'passenger for the north by the steamer express last night.

Mr J. D. Godfrey, a new member of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association, and Mr E. Orchard, a former member who has been elected again this year, were welcomed by the president (Mr A. W. Mewton) at last night’s meeting of the executive.

Mr J. Caughley has been appointed travelling tutor for the Workers’ Educational Association in public works camps, according to a decision of the Canterbury University College Council at its meeting yesterday. Congratulations to Mr A. W. Mewton on his election as president of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association were extended by the executive at its meeting last evening. Dr. H. N. Parton has been appointed a member of the Professorial Board of Canterbury College as representative of the lecturing staff of the college.

Mr H. W, Wilkinson was nominated by the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening as one of its three representatives on the Disabled Soldiers’ Civil Re-establishment League. The vacancy was caused by the resignation from the Executive of Mr W. H. Darby, who was a representative on the league.

Mr R. Winterbourn was appointed lecturer in education at Canterbury University College by the college council at its meeting yesterday. Mr Winterbourn, who is a graduate of the college, and was formerly on its staff, has been studying in England and in the United States for the last 18 months. He went abroad with a Carnegie Fellowship. Messrs A. W. Mewton (president), A. E. Haynes (vice-president), and D. W. Russell and the secretary (Mr E. F. Willcox) will represent the Christchurch association at the annual conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, opening in Wellington on July 27.
