POLICE BATTLE WITH PICKETS

* OHIO RUBBER WORKS STRIKE HUNDREDS INJURED AND . GASSED (TOTTED PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received May 28, 11 a.m.)

AKRON (Ohio), May 27

At least 100 persons were injured and hundreds were gassed when police and 3000 pickets battled for three hours at the Goodyear rubber plant, which is out of operation because of a strike.

The police, using tear gas and truncheons, moved on the pickets, who retaliated with stones and fought savagely, in the blood-stained streets.

The Adjutant-General of Ohio, fearing further trouble, ordered 3000 militiamen to be held in readiness for sudden mobilisation.
