OFFICIAL FORECASTS {TH£ PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. May 29. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to fresh winds between north-westerly and south--westerly. Weather mainly fair to fine, with moderate temperatures. Sea slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is;— Moderate to strong winds between north-westerly and southwesterly. Weather unsettled and rather squally, with scattered rain. Tempera Vares moderate. Seas rough. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— t Weather unsettled and rather squally, with scattered rain in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far south; elsewhere mainly fair to cloudy. Temperatures moderate. The anti-cyclone situated over northern New Zealand yester- ' day has moved to the east, but pressure remains relatively high in northern latitudes. A rather deep depressior. crossed ihe South Island last night, and is being followed by another across the South Tasman. (CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER was cold and overcast in Christchurch, but the weather improved yesterday morning and the eun shone strongly during the afternoon. There was no wind. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and the weather calm. The temperature was 54 degrees* and. the barometer, at 29.75 inches, was rising. IN OTHER PLACES i Auckland—There was continued unsettled weather at the week-end, conditions being showery, with a fresh wind on Saturday from the south-west and yesterday from the north to north-west. The maximum temperature was 65 degrees. The barometer was fairly steady until early yesterday morning, when it began to fall; the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.85 v : inches. Wellington—Saturday was overcast, : with a fresh north-westerly wind. Intermittent rain fell during the even- ' ing, and there was a very heavy fall ■ in the early hours of yesterday mornmg, the total recorded up to 9 a.m. being 33 points. The wind rose during Saturday night, and continued at gale force, a maximum gust of 68 miles an hour being recorded at Kelburn about 5 a.m. Yesterday morning was over- •' cast and boisterous, but the wind gradually moderated, and the weather raipdly improved, the afternoon being ■ fine and sunny. Temperatures during the week-end were cool to moderate, the maximum on Saturday being 60.1 and yesterday 60.8. The minimum temperature on Saturday night was ■ 47.8 degrees. ; Dunedin—The weather was dull on Saturday morning, and rain fell in the afternoon, becoming steady in the earlyevening. The day was cold, though there was little wind, and the maximum temperature was 56 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.94 inches m the morning, but fell shanply later, inere was a pronounced improvement yesterday, when bright sunshine and the absence of wind made conditions - very pleasant.
