CURRENT NOTES

Miss Joan Fulton (Lismore Flats, Fendalton) left last night for Auckland to join the Monterey for a trip to California. Miss Marjorie Bloxam (Featherston) is visiting her aunt, Mrs Mervyn Stevenson, Weston road. Miss Aileen Irwin (“Fairfield Farm,” Rakaia) left by the Awatea for a six weeks’ holiday visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Miss Marion Grose has returned to Christchurch after a visit to Australia. During her trip she visited many of the leading dancing academies in Melbourne and Sydney. Mrs Douglas Anderson (Armagh street west) will return to-night from a holiday spent at the Rakaia fishing huts. Mr F. A, Dunn (Christchurch), with his son and daughter, arrived in London by the Orcades. After a few weeks in London, the travellers set out for a tour of England and Scotland before seeing the Continent. Their present intentions are to return via America. Mrs W. Diamond and Miss G. Diamond (Murray place), who left three months ago for Britain, have been staying in Glasgow, and will shortly cross to Ireland, Later, Edinburgh and London are to be visited, followed by a trip to the Continent. The return to New Zealand will be started at the end of October.

Miss Nelle M. Scanlan, the New Zealand novelist, intends ' leaving London in July for a holiday visit to the Dominion. She will visit South Africa on the journey out. Miss Stella Murray, the New Zealand contralto, has returned to London from a tour in Northern Italy, where she was the guest of the Baroness de Bush. Her headquarters were at the Villa Ciana, St. Margherita Ligure, and her travels included Milan and Venice.

Miss June Wright (St. Martins) and Miss Gynneth Harris Thompson (Dannevirke), who have been visiting Miss Marion Hay, Timaru, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Miss E. Gainsford (Christchurch), who arrived in London by the Strathmore at the end of April, is staying with relatives at Acton. On her way she visited India, Egypt, and Palestine. From Acton she will stay with other relatives at Frin-ton-on-Sea, A general tour of England and Scotland is contemplated. Miss Lilian Hudson, M.A., Professor in Public Health Nursing at Columbia University, New York, will visit Wellington next week. She has been travelling in Australia and is on her wav back to America. While in Wellington she will address public health nurses and members of the Registered Nurses’ Association.

Mrs A. Turner . (Mayfield, MidCanterbury) is spending the winter months at Tauranga. Mrs W. R. Knowles (Weston road) arrived in Wellington on Thursday by the Awatea after an extended holiday in Australia. She returned to Christchurch by the steamer express yesterday. Miss Helen Goldstone (Christchurch) has returned from a visit to Mrs E. P. Goldstone, Hokitika.

Miss Jeanette Curtis (London), who has been spending a month in Christchurch, will leave this evening for Dunedin.

Madame Blanche Marches! will be 75 this year. She intends to give a concert and to sing at it herself to celebrate her birthday in ’ the spring.

Mrs A. D. Batt gave a small farewell afternoon party for her niece, Miss' Ellen Armstrong, (North Auckland), at , the Albion' Hotel, Westport. Those present were Mesdames Atkinson, Schadick, Grant, Bird, Holdgate, Hilton, Henley, Tonks, and Batt, and Miss Helene Stowell. : Miss R. Cracroft Wilson, Montreal street, will leave next week for Dunedin, where she will spend a short holiday as the guest of Mrs Jack Anderson.

Mrs A. Cornelius (Wellington), who has £een staying with Mrs N. Bowman, Fendajton, is no\ visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. J. Corry (Blenheim). Misses Mildred A. Trent and Frances L. Cooper, Dominion president and Dominion honorary secretary respectively of the National Council of Women of New Zealand, will leave to-day for an official visit to the South Canterbury branch of the National Council of Women. While in Timaru Miss Trent and Miss Cooper, who have worked for many years to alleviate unemplSyment amongst women and girls, will visit “Stratheona,” the recently-onened School s of Practical Domestic Training at Pleasant Point.
