ACTIVITIES DURING WEEK There had been less activity in the labour market during the last week, reports the State Placement Officer at Christchurch. Positions were found for 24 men, of which 12 were permanent. The inquiry for farrfi labour had been restricted, and all applications had been filled. At the present time there was a surplus of farm Workers seeking work. The Government’s subsidised scheme for youths from 18 to 25 years of age Wds progressing satisfactorily, and was meeting with a good response from employers. At present there were 11 applications, including adult, special and ordinary apprenticeships, covering carpentering, bricklaying, cabinetmaking; plumbing, and printing trades, * under consideration by the District Registrar of Apprentices. There was still a large number of particularly good types of young men seeking, and eagerly awaiting a chance to obtain positions and prove their worth, the report, added. The majority were still securing tuition in various , trades, at the Technical College.
